The Village and Surrounds

A brass historical marker, on the premises of Shawnee Falls Studio, Gallery & Guesthouse states that Shawnee-on-Delaware was founded in 1742, though, actually, Minsi and other Native tribes were present long before that. Five minutes from exit 310 off highway 80, Shawnee village appears as surprisingly as Brigadoon, down a steep hill with towering trees and Delaware River vista. Known for its natural beauty and outdoor activities, this area abounds with hiking trails--including the Appalachian Trail--and canoeing, kayaking, and skiing are popular sports. The Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area surrounds us with its scenic beauty and diverse wildlife. Keep your eyes open!--Bald eagles spend the winter here and we have a sometimes-resident heron in our own waterfall!
